Are your mouldings in proper proportion to the spaces they adorn?
This illustrated guide, which includes nine images and a size chart, uses historic precedent to establish proper proportioning recommendations.
Many books have been written about the classical proportions of columns, detailing the very strict scale of elements. But only scant reference is made to moulding proportions, and then mostly as it relates to classical cornices within the historical context. It seemed to us that architects and builders could benefit from some simple proportioning guidelines that are based on historic precedent, yet updated to reflect current design styles and building techniques.
This detailed guide includes:
- Descriptive narrative for Base, Crown and Casing
- Table of moulding sizes by ceiling height
- Scaling factors for determining proportion
- Images showing subtle differences in proportions
